C. Stephan Brown, CEO of CSB Tech Emporium

C. Stephan Brown is the founder and CEO of CSB Tech Emporium, a technology solutions provider based in The Bahamas, working across websites and e-commerce, mobile applications, SaaS and custom software, automation, and AI-assisted business services. He started the company in 2014 to build mobile apps, games, and AR/VR experiences at a time when almost no local firms were doing that kind of work. Today the company has grown into a broader technology solutions provider, Brown has expanded into publishing with a regional e-commerce book series, he teaches e-commerce as an Adjunct Lecturer at the Bahamas Technical and Vocational Institute, he has expanded his work into applied AI and AI-assisted business services, and he regularly speaks at conferences on entrepreneurship, digital infrastructure, and AI.

Who Is C. Stephan Brown

Most people know him simply as C. Stephan. His full name is Conville Stephan Brown, and using his middle name is partly a way of carving out his own identity apart from his father, a well known cardiologist and businessman in The Bahamas. Building something in tech, rather than medicine, was Brown’s way of finding his own lane.

He earned a bachelor’s degree in Computer Information Systems from the College of The Bahamas in 2012, then went on to complete an MBA at the Florida Institute of Technology. His early career started small, working as a Junior Systems Administrator at The Medical Pavilion Bahamas, handling the everyday work of keeping a company’s network and servers running.

Starting CSB Tech Emporium In A Market With No Playbook

Brown founded CSB Tech Emporium in November 2014. The timing mattered. At that point, The Bahamas had very few companies focused on mobile app development, and even fewer working on video game software. He was not stepping into an established local market, he was helping build one.

His reasoning was straightforward. Young tech professionals in The Bahamas often struggled to break into the industry without prior experience, so he created a company that let him grow that experience on his own terms while also giving others a place to do the same.

What CSB Tech Emporium Actually Builds Today

CSB Tech Emporium started out with a mobile-first focus, and mobile apps, games, and AR/VR experiences were a major part of the company’s early identity. Since then, the company has grown into a broader technology solutions provider. Its work today spans the following areas.

Websites & E-Commerce

Building and maintaining online storefronts and business websites for Caribbean brands.

Mobile Applications

The company’s original specialty, still a core part of its offering today.

SaaS & Custom Software

Purpose-built software solutions for businesses that off-the-shelf tools cannot serve.

Automation

Streamlining repetitive business processes for small and medium companies.

AI-Assisted Business Services

Helping Bahamian and Caribbean businesses adopt practical AI tools.

Technology Consulting

Broader implementation and strategy support for companies moving online.

The company is based in The Bahamas and positions itself around the idea that the Caribbean’s tech culture is growing fast, even if it is not always the first place people think of when they picture a startup hub. Brown has leaned into that shift rather than waiting for outside companies to notice the region.

Building Payment Infrastructure for Caribbean E-Commerce

CSB Tech Emporium has built WooCommerce payment gateways for several Bahamian mobile money and payment providers over the years, including SunCa$h, Cash N’ Go, Kanoo, and PowerTranz. Each plugin is built on the API provided by its respective provider, and CSB Tech maintains all of its WooCommerce plugins directly, updating them once new API documentation becomes available.

April 2020
SunCa$h plugin released, still the only off-the-shelf option on the market
April 2020
Kanoo plugin released, discontinued once Kanoo shipped its own official plugin
June 2023
PowerTranz plugin started under the First Atlantic Commerce name, private deployment
January 2024
Cash N’ Go plugin released, the only off-the-shelf option on the market

SunCa$h is a mobile digital wallet and financial services platform based in The Bahamas, licensed and regulated by the Central Bank of The Bahamas and the Securities Commission. It launched as the first mobile payment platform in the country and has since grown to serve over 100,000 customers, offering domestic transfers, bill pay, physical and virtual cards, and mobile top-ups, and it was the first mobile wallet in the world to process a Central Bank Digital Currency transaction.

CSB Tech built and released its SunCash WooCommerce plugin in April 2020, and it remains the only publicly available off-the-shelf WooCommerce plugin for SunCash on the market, letting local merchants accept SunCash payments directly through their WordPress and WooCommerce stores.

Kanoo is a Bahamian digital wallet run by CaribPay (Bahamas) Ltd., licensed by the Central Bank of The Bahamas as a Non-Bank Electronic Retail Payment Institution. The name is drawn from Junkanoo, the country’s signature cultural festival, and the platform lets users send and receive money, pay merchants, and access deals from its app, having first rolled out through Super Value’s supermarket locations after roughly two years in development.

CSB Tech built a WooCommerce plugin for Kanoo, releasing it the same month as its SunCash plugin in April 2020, roughly a year and a half to two years before Kanoo released and began maintaining its own free plugin on the WordPress plugin marketplace. Once Kanoo’s official plugin was available, CSB Tech discontinued its own, which is why it is no longer listed among the company’s current integrations.

Cash N’ GoPowered by PayLanes is a Bahamian financial services company operated by BAF Global, running its mobile wallet on the PayLanes platform. Alongside the app, it operates walk-in locations across New Providence and the Family Islands, including Eleuthera, Abaco, and Freeport, offering bill payments, MoneyGram transfers, Cash Now loans, and mobile top-ups.

CSB Tech developed and released its Cash N’ Go WooCommerce plugin in January 2024, and like the SunCash plugin, it is the only publicly available off-the-shelf WooCommerce plugin for Cash N’ Go on the market. The plugin runs on Cash N’ Go’s API but operates independently of the Cash N’ Go corporation, with maintenance handled exclusively by CSB Tech. Brown was featured in Cash N’ Go’s Merchant Minute series discussing that work.

PowerTranz, formerly First Atlantic Commerce (FAC), is one of the most established payment gateways in the Caribbean and Central America, founded in 1998 and headquartered in Bermuda. The company provides multicurrency card processing, secure online authentication, and fraud management, and is integrated with more than 20 banks and processors across roughly 30 countries, powering transactions for over 10,000 regional merchants. FAC officially rebranded to PowerTranz in 2025.

CSB Tech’s PowerTranz WooCommerce plugin has taken the longest road to a public release of the group. It was first developed in June 2023 under the First Atlantic Commerce name and was privately deployed to a select group of merchants.

Since then, CSB Tech has substantially redeveloped and modernized the plugin, with the new version targeted for public release in August 2026.

Together, these integrations reflect a broader goal: giving Caribbean businesses access to the locally and regionally relevant payment options they need to compete online, instead of leaving them dependent on payment infrastructure built for other markets.

Transformative Projects For Accessibility

Under Brown’s leadership, CSB Tech has delivered landmark projects that have had a significant impact on the Caribbean region. Two notable examples highlight the company’s growing reputation in accessibility-focused technology.

2021, The Bahamas

AccessAbility Bahamas

Built in partnership with the Ministry of Social Services and the National Commission for Persons with Disabilities in The Bahamas. The app empowers people with disabilities by providing easy access to essential resources, including job opportunities, transportation options, events, and direct communication with the commission. Users can also request interpreter services, making it a vital tool for inclusivity.

2024, Bermuda

National Disability Register

Building on the success of AccessAbility Bahamas, CSB Tech was contracted by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) to expand its efforts to Bermuda. Launched in April 2024 in partnership with the Department of Ageing and Disability Services (ADS), under what was then Bermuda’s Ministry of Youth, Social Development and Seniors, the app connects persons with disabilities in Bermuda to resources and government services.

Together, the two projects strengthened CSB Tech’s regional track record in accessibility-focused technology, and they reflect a throughline in Brown’s work: building digital infrastructure that serves people who are often overlooked by mainstream tech products.

The Family Inspiration Behind The CSB Name

The CSB in CSB Tech Emporium is a nod to family. Brown’s parents happen to share the same initials, and that shared thread is part of the personal story behind the company’s name and identity, even as CSB Tech Emporium itself is Brown’s own venture.

You can read more about CSB Tech Emporium on the company’s website, where it shares more on its background and the story behind the CSB name.

Expanding Beyond Tech: The Cracking The E-Commerce Code Series

In 2024, Brown started a book series called Cracking the E-Commerce Code, aimed at helping business owners across the Caribbean understand how to actually sell online in their own markets, rather than relying on generic global e-commerce advice that does not account for local payment systems, shipping realities, or customer behavior.

The first volume, Cracking the E-Commerce Code: The Bahamas, was released in April 2024 and walks through identifying untapped opportunities in the Bahamian market, building localized strategies, optimizing an online store, and running effective marketing campaigns, using real case studies rather than theory. It is available on Amazon, at CSB Tech Emporium’s office, and in several local bookstores, including Chapter One Bookstore at the University of The Bahamas.

Each volume follows the same underlying idea: e-commerce advice only works when it accounts for the specific market it is written for, so rather than writing one general Caribbean guide, Brown has chosen to build the series out market by market. The Bahamas edition is the only volume published and currently available for sale. Editions for Barbados, Bermuda, the Cayman Islands, Trinidad and Tobago, and Jamaica have all been drafted, and the series is targeting publication in late 2026 or early 2027.

From Practitioner To Educator: Teaching E-Commerce At BTVI

Since 2025, Brown has also served as an Adjunct Lecturer at the Bahamas Technical and Vocational Institute (BTVI), where he teaches e-commerce. The role gives him a formal outlet for the same practitioner’s perspective behind the Cracking the E-Commerce Code series, translating hands-on experience building digital infrastructure for Bahamian businesses into the classroom for the next generation of students entering the field.

Taken together, the writing and the teaching point to the same instinct: once Brown had built something that worked, he looked for ways to pass that knowledge on rather than keeping it inside CSB Tech Emporium alone.

A Growing Voice At Industry Conferences

Brown has also become a regular voice at industry events, and his speaking topics span more ground than a typical founder profile.

2018

8th Annual Fraud, Ethics, and Compliance Seminar

Presented on digital currencies, exploring whether they represented a genuine future for money or a passing trend, in a session titled “Digital Currencies: Today’s Fiat or Pipe Dream?”

2023

38th CANTO Caribbean Conference

Presented a workshop during the EdTech stream, hosted by the SmartTerm LMS team, addressing the challenges educators face in technology-driven classrooms and strategies for building competence and confidence in the digital classroom.

2026

Global Founders & Innovators Summit

Spoke on entrepreneurship in emerging markets, sharing lessons on building digital platforms and scalable tech businesses in The Bahamas and wider Caribbean, and what it takes to compete globally while building locally.

2026

ISBET Bahamas Tech Expo

Hosted by the International School of Business, Entrepreneurship & Technology. Brown joined a Young Entrepreneurs in Tech panel to share perspectives on technology, entrepreneurship, and the opportunities available to young people in The Bahamas.

2026

Annual Joint Fraud & Ethics Conference

Scheduled for September 17, 2026, hosted by The Bahamas Institute of Chartered Accountants and the ACFE Bahamas Chapter at the Baha Mar Convention Center. His session, “Trust but Verify: Professional Judgment in an Age of AI-Generated Evidence,” looks at how AI-generated content is reshaping fraud risk, ethical responsibility, internal controls, and professional judgment for accountants and auditors.

That range, from entrepreneurship stages to fraud and compliance seminars to EdTech workshops to accounting and audit conferences to youth-focused tech panels, points to how Brown has positioned himself. His invitations to speak across entrepreneurship, technology, ethics, and professional services also reflect how his public role has expanded beyond software development.

The Takeaway

Brown’s story follows a pattern worth paying attention to if you are building something in a market that does not have an established playbook yet. He did not wait for a mobile app scene to exist in The Bahamas before starting a mobile app company. He built the thing he wished already existed, and once the company had traction, used that credibility to start educating business owners across the region and teaching students at BTVI, while also becoming an increasingly active contributor to industry conversations well beyond his own field.

That is a useful model for anyone building a company in an underserved market rather than a saturated one.

Editor’s note: This profile was initially compiled from publicly available sources, including CSB Tech Emporium’s website, LinkedIn, and press coverage, and was subsequently reviewed by Brown for factual accuracy.
